Windows

Windows

Traditionally PvC frames were designed with a front to back depth of 60mm, however recently a 70mm frame has become preferred which is thermally welded in the corner to provide integral strength and also the perfect size for a double glazed unit. Another new enhancement on traditional profile is changing the number of internal chambers from 3 to 4. The reason for this is, after rigorous testing, the extra chamber was found to improve the thermal efficiency of the windows.

Two of the most important aspects of a window are its security and performance. We have had numerous discussions with our supplier and since we live in one of the wettest parts of the country we have tailored all of our products to ensure our customers only get the highest quality. To make sure our french doors are as water tight as possible; we put a pair of handles on each door.

This is an advantage over only having finger bolts to lock in the second door as, with a handle, the door can be pulled tight onto its seals reducing any gaps and stopping drafts. We put a minimum of four hinges on all our doors, on larger doors we will even put extra galvanised steel reinforcing in the profile to provide increased structural support.
Conservatories

Conservatories

A conservatory construction is a huge investment and this is why it is extremely important to make sure it’s done correctly from the offset. We always work to building regulations – the diagram below shows an average base which is constructed, although this is adapted to each site to ensure it is structurally sound.

After a sturdy base is laid down, the possibilities open up to whatever you want to get from your new room. This could be a warm roof which creates an all year round usable space, or to get a bit more sun you could install a polycarbonate or glass roof.

The glass we use in the roof is different to glass we use in the windows as we want it to have different properties and effects on the room. Generally they have coatings to provide less solar gain (heat gained from the sun) so the room doesn’t get as hot. This is ideal when the sun is high in summer, and when the sun is lower in winter you still get the solar gain from the windows.
